In this policy, when we refer to “we”, “us” or “our”, it means Amboss Underwriting Ltd and Amboss Underwriting B.V. When we refer to “you” and “your” in this policy, we mean a living individual whose personal information we may collect.
We are the controllers in respect of personal information for the products and services we provide to you. Protecting your personal information is important to us. We have set out information below to help understand how we use any personal information we collect about you so that we can provide you with appropriate insurance products and services, settle any valid claims and deal with any concerns you may have.
Where such information is collected this will be treated with the utmost care and respect. Information is shared only with other insurance professionals in the ordinary course of transacting contracts of insurance.
We will never process so-called sensitive personal data such as genetic or biometric data, religious and political views, trade union membership, racial information, sexual orientation and the like. How data is collected
- From the information provided in a proposal form
- From the information provided by an insurance broker or intermediary
- When information is communicated by telephone, fax, email or other forms of electronic communication
- From agents, advisers and intermediaries
- From publicly available information, i.e. via the internet, hard copy publications, articles, financial statements, etc.
What data is collected?
- The names, addresses, nationalities and dates of birth of business partners or potential business partners
- Information on key individuals within the company such as employment history, qualifications and other background detail, but only when relevant to the insurance
- Information on the income, expenditure, assets and liabilities of the companies/entities being insured (but not of the individuals associated with the company)
- Information collected during the due diligence process to satisfy Know Your Client requirements and assess whether there is any international trade sanction, financial crime or money laundering risk
Why this data is used?
- As necessary for transacting a contract of insurance
- To prepare an insurance quotation and policy documentation once a quotation is accepted
- Any other purpose for which an insured provides personal data
- To enable third parties (underwriters, loss adjusters, Lloyd’s brokers) to assist in transacting insurance and settling claims thereunder
- For the administration and management of Amboss’ business
- To meet legal and regulatory obligations including those concerning anti-money laundering and international trade and financial sanctions
With whom might this data be shared?
- Professional advisers, including solicitors and other insurance specialists, to enable them to provide advice and assist in the transacting of insurance contracts
- Auditors to enable them to complete statutory audits and associated work
- Lloyd’s and regulators to evidence compliance with laws and regulatory rules
- Law enforcement agencies but only where required by law
How long is the data kept?
Any personal data collected will be retained only for as long as there is a lawful reason to do so. For example, to fulfil Amboss’ legal and regulatory obligations, i.e. in respect of anti-money laundering legislation, international sanctions and regulations covering the retention of data in respect of insurance transactions. Or if there is a requirement to retain information for the purposes of court proceedings or other legal reasons.
How is the data protected?
We follow best industry practise data security processes to ensure data is kept safely and securely and to prevent unauthorized access, use or loss of personal data. Please see the previous section for more details on this topic.

Amboss and its employees recognise the duty to act in the best interest of their customers, Principals and other contracting parties.
Amboss has a Conflict of Interest Policy in place, for the protection of our integrity and to provide guidance to our employees. This policy also enables our clients and business partners to have confidence in the integrity, intentions and actions of our employees.
